What's the point of multiple intents?

I refer to the multiple intents described here.

What is the advantage of having a multiple intent called ## intent1+intent2+intent3, rather than having a normal intent called ## intent1intent2intent3, if in both cases you need to provide new examples for that?

I was wondering the same thing. Recently tried to implement it and the NLU data became overblown quite quickly. Would have though there should be a way it could recognise the 2 intents from the single intent data.
